Tamang Heritage
Tamang Heritage Trek is a recently opened area west of the Langtang Valley that aims to bring tourism funds to a poor region to give tourists the opportunity to connect with these people of Tibetan origin. Hikers stay in local lodges or houses and experience the warmth and spirit of the Tamang culture first hand, their Buddhist beliefs and their craft. Your hosts, farmers who supply products, creative artists and artisans benefit from this. with some money goes into social funds. A clear advantage is that the Tamang Heritage Trek in Nepal is still “off the beaten track” and thus offers a view of a region that is “set back in time” and offers time for reflection and loneliness. The Tamang Heritage Trekking Trail winds through ridges that run through farmland, swampy grasslands, subtropical forests and highlands and offer a wonderful view of snow-capped peaks. Langur monkeys, bears, pandas and countless birds live in the forests.
This Tamang village hike begins with an 8-10 hour 132 km bus ride from Kathmandu that follows the torturous and scenic road to cross the Dhotre Khola before turning the Trisuli Nadi north to Syabru Besi (lower Syabru): the starting point of the hike. This is an interesting village at the confluence of the Bhote Kosi and Langtang Kola, below which it becomes the Trisuli Nadi. The first day zigzags up to a ridge and walk to the day’s viewpoint, Rongba Bhanjyang and another 45 minutes easy walk for lunch. And then on to Gatlang: the largest Tamang village in the region.
The second day offers relaxation in the Tatopani community’s hot springs, and the third day leads to a calm and satisfying view of the High Himalayas from the crest of the Nagthali Ghyang before descending to Thuman. A stay in a family home in Briddim, dinner and a demonstration of traditional dances and local handicrafts are the features of the Tamang Heritage Trail route
