Overview: Short Everest Trek

The Short Everest Trek is one of the easiest and most accessible trekking routes in Nepal’s renowned Everest region. Specifically designed for travelers with limited time but a strong desire to experience the breathtaking Himalayas, this trek offers a perfect introduction to the Everest area without requiring weeks of trekking. If you’ve always wanted to visit the Everest region but were unsure due to time constraints, the Short Everest Trek is the ideal choice.

One of the key highlights of this trek is a visit to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant and bustling trading center of the Everest region. More than just a marketplace, Namche Bazaar serves as the gateway to Everest, offering an authentic glimpse into Sherpa culture, local traditions, and mountain life. Exploring Namche is a cultural journey in itself, filled with charming teahouses, markets, and stunning Himalayan views.

From Namche Bazaar, the trek continues to the famous Everest View Hotel, a unique vantage point providing close and panoramic views of some of the world’s highest and most iconic peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and many others. Standing here, you can enjoy the majestic wilderness of the Himalayas while sipping a warm cup of tea or coffee, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

The adventure begins with a thrilling and scenic flight to Lukla, often described as one of the most exciting flights in the world. Flying above lush green landscapes and rugged mountain terrain, the journey offers spectacular views of snow-capped peaks that gradually grow larger as you approach Lukla’s narrow airstrip carved into the hillsides. The landing on this dramatic and challenging runway is an adventure in itself, setting the tone for the trek ahead.

This trek is ideal for those who want a taste of Everest’s grandeur without committing to longer, more demanding expeditions. It combines natural beauty, cultural richness, and stunning mountain scenery into a compact and accessible package. Whether you are a beginner trekker, short on time, or simply seeking a quick Himalayan getaway, the Short Everest Trek promises a rewarding and memorable experience.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2840 m) & trek to Phakding (2610 m): Walking distance: 7.5 km: 3 hours

After early breakfast, we depart from Kathmandu via airplane for Lukla (2840 m). The flight takes about 35 minutes to reach Lukla airport from Kathmandu. The Lukla flight is one of the most dramatic short distance flights in the world. The Lukla Airport is located on a hill and consists of a single runway that drops off towards its end to the deep gaping valley below. Surrounded by tall mountains and jaded hills, the airstrip at Lukla is quite fascinating and the flight is a thrilling adventure in itself. Upon arrival at Lukla, the changes are immediately felt. The mountainous landscape becomes quite prominent and the air carries a crisp freshness to it, which only Himalayan atmosphere carries. From Lukla, the trekking trail slowly moves towards the Cheplung Village. View of the sacred Mount Khumbila from the village at Cheplung is gorgeous. From there, a gradual walk downwards leads to the village of Phakding. The terrain is amazing and tall hills surround the trail like giant mounds of emeralds. From Phakding, the sight of the Kusum Kangraru Mountain can be seen. The village of Phakding lies in the Dudh Koshi River valley north of Lukla and contains many guesthouses and lodges for the service of tourists and trekkers.

Overnight at Guesthouse.

Note: The weather in Lukla is very unpredictable. Sometimes due to bad weather the flight may be delayed or cancelled. If the flight is cancelled, you will have to return back to the hotel in Kathmandu. The transportation back to the hotel and accommodation on this night is not included. If the weather is clear next day, you will get either 3rd or 4th flight to Lukla. If still the weather is not clear, there will be an option for helicopter flight also. The cost for helicopter flight is not fixed. It will be quoted by the airlines on the same day. You will have to pay additional approx. 150 USD for the helicopter flight from KTM to Lukla.
