Overview
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek – Nepal's Most Popular Short Himalayan Trek
The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal's most popular trekking adventures, offering an ideal combination of breathtaking Himalayan scenery, rich cultural experiences, and moderate hiking trails. Perfect for beginners, families, and experienced trekkers alike, this short trek rewards visitors with panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges without requiring high-altitude mountaineering experience.
The highlight of the journey is the unforgettable early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m), one of Nepal's most famous viewpoints. As the sun rises over the Himalayas, the snow-covered peaks glow in golden light, creating one of the most spectacular sunrise panoramas in the world. From the summit, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Annapurna Fang (7,647 m), Hiunchuli (6,434 m), Machhapuchhre (Fishtail, 6,993 m), Dhampus Peak (6,012 m), and many surrounding Himalayan giants.
Beyond the mountain scenery, the trek offers an authentic cultural experience through the traditional Gurung and Magar villages. Visitors can experience warm Nepalese hospitality, explore charming mountain settlements, and learn about the local lifestyle, customs, and traditions that have remained unchanged for generations.
The trail begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul before following well-maintained paths through Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, Ghorepani, and Poon Hill. Along the route, trekkers pass lush rhododendron forests, terraced farmlands, cascading waterfalls, stone staircases, suspension bridges, and peaceful mountain villages. The route from Ulleri to Ghorepani offers stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and surrounding peaks throughout the journey.
The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered one of the best short treks in Nepal because of its moderate difficulty, excellent teahouse accommodations, and year-round accessibility. It is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and requires no technical climbing experience.
Although the trek can be enjoyed throughout the year, spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons to visit. During spring, colorful rhododendron forests bloom across the hillsides, while autumn offers crystal-clear mountain views and pleasant trekking conditions, making both seasons ideal for witnessing the famous sunrise from Poon Hill.
Whether you're visiting Nepal for the first time or looking for a rewarding short Himalayan adventure, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek delivers stunning mountain vistas, vibrant local culture, and unforgettable trekking experiences in the heart of the Annapurna region.

From Pokhara city we will travel via Jeep for approximately 2.5 hours to Nayapul, from here the Poon Hill journey on foot begins! The first stretch of the journey is an easy walk on a dirt road along a beautiful river. Here we will see glimpses of the mystical Himalayan peaks and lush green mountain surroundings. We will be passing local villages while taking in the Nepalese mountainside life and culture. Day 1 is a four-hour trek which ends at Tikhedhunga Tea House where we will be staying the night. We then cross a small river and climb to Nangethani. Upon arrival at Ghorepani, we get soaring views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I and other mountains. After having breakfast in Ghandruk, we will head towards the Jhinu Danda hot spring. Today is about relaxing and reflecting upon the journey your body, mind and soul has just embarked on. Close your eyes and enjoy the sound of nature or enjoy a dip in the ice-cold river and return to the hot pool for the full hot and cold muscle treatment. We will stay overnight at Jhinu Danda.
